Electric Ballroom in Camden hosted a night to remember as American metal/ hard-rockers Fozzy returned to London for the first time in 5 years and set the room ablaze! With Support from Marisa And The Moths and Tailgunner, the entire night was filled with stage theatrics, colourful lighting and hard riffs.

Marisa And The Moths - pretty filthy, filthy pretty grunge

UK-based alt-rock, grunge-inspired band Marisa And The Moths started the night and set the bar high with powerful melodic vocals from lead singer Marisa Rodruiguez. She captivated the crowd with her energy on and off the stage, coming down to the barrier to interact with fans whilst still holding long notes perfectly, showcasing her impressive vocal range.

The full band's chemistry shone throughout their entire set, each member giving it all in their performances and not shying away into the background. The 90's grunge influences run strong through both the instrumentals and vocals, but they have put a personal, modern twist, making the genre their own. I definitely see big things coming for Marisa And The Moths due to their ability to seamlessly fit in between genres of Rock, giving them the flexibility to suit the majority of rock-based festival line-ups, and they have the talent to take up the big stages!

Tailgunner - The NEW new wave of British heavy metal

Want to go back in time to see the likes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest or Def Leppard back in their prime? Tailgunner can give you that in the modern day! Also UK-based, Tailgunner bring the performance style and riffs of classic power metal but with a more modern style. They went down so well with the crowd that they even included their own encore after loud chants from the fans. Craig Cairns also brought an impressive vocal range to Electric ballroom, the stage clearly being a second home to him, with the ability to control the crowd, showing off a custom band-named mic stand and bouncing off the other members. Though it wasn't just him that stayed animated on stage, with choreographed moves to riffs, guitarists synchronised with each other towards the crowd, which made the fans feel even more involved with the show.

Fozzy's headline set - "If Metallica and Journey had a bastard child, it would be Fozzy."

Before hitting the stage, the crowd's chants of "Alice? Who the fuck is Alice?" shook the room along to the song by 'Smokie', everyone was hyped before the lights dropped and the first chords of 'Fall in line' started to play. The band came on stage one by one, with Jericho coming last as the lights went up, showering the bad in red tones. Video screens on stage playing visuals and music videos really brought the stage together, providing a great visual experience to the night as well as a musical soundtrack of the setlist. The setlist was a well-curated mix of popular tracks as well as a couple of covers, driving the fans' energy more intensely after each track. Jericho's vocals remained strong and clear throughout, even with the need of equipment alterations during songs; you wouldn't have noticed a drop in his delivery. With sparkly black trousers reflecting the lights and numerous jacket changes throughout, Jericho brought his signature style to the show, adding to his showman persona, which he exhibits naturally. Balancing the mic stand up in the air upside down, commanding the audience from a platform, and bandmates just being goofy together showed that they were having just as much fun there as the audience. Between songs, Jericho's charismatic banter kept everyone hungry for more, thanking the fans for being there after a 5 year gap of being in the UK. 'I still burn' had the crowd roaring along, loud enough to almost be on par with the bands vocals, being the time they really started to let loose. Fozzy don't usually get crowd surfers, but London crowds have always been a different breed, starting a mosh pit during the encore of 'Judas', notably Fozzy's biggest track, led to a couple of surfers making the most of the final couple of tracks.

What made "Fozzy Friday" stand out:

Several factors made this Fozzy concert at the Electric Ballroom stand out:

  • Intimacy of the Venue: The smaller 1,000-person capacity of Electric Ballroom floor allowed for an intimate experience with full stage view and no dead-spots for sound quality. For fans wanting to get a good view or take their own photos from the crowd, Electric Ballroom was perfect.

  • Setlist Variety: With a mix of their back catalogue throughout the show, fans were treated to many favourites, notably "Judas" kicking the crowd into overdrive for the encore, with it being the band's most noticeable track.

  • Band Chemistry: Despite Jericho being a full-on showman, he did not overshadow the rest of the band. Seeing him separate his music from his wrestling career brings a refreshing side of him in front of a crowd.

  • Audience Engagement: The fans were die-hards for the music! Yes, there were a few times wrestling chants occurred from the entire crowd, but it was great to see people were there for the band, not just an easier way to see a favourite wrestler in the flesh.

Final Thoughts:

“I'm the best in the world at what I do.” - One of Jericho's signature catchphrases for a reason! I have to agree with him. He can captivate a live music audience just as well as he can TV viewers while in the ring, and not just him, the entire band provided production values that would suit stages much larger than Electric Ballroom. Leaving the stage with genuine humility for their fans, they made everyone feel a part of the Fozzy family, no matter if they had been to every past show or were hearing them for the first time. The vibe as people poured out the doors confirmed that Fozzy are a must-see act for any rock or metal fan.
